Documentales musicales

En los últimos 2 años se han estrenado, con bastante éxito en las carteleras y entre la crítica, varios documentales de gran calidad sobre cantantes o grupos. En este post voy a agruparlos por su temática, junto con otros clásicos del mismo género.

Voy a empezar por los que repasan la vida del artista por completo, desde su nacimiento, con diversos documentos personales como vídeos caseros, fotografías familiares o manuscritos, generalmente hasta su fallecimiento (Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Chet Baker y Joe Strummer).

Por otro lado, están los que se tratan sobre la grabación de un determinado álbum, siempre con sus peculiaridades: el bloqueo creativo de Metallica en "St. Anger", la fusión de Enrique Morente y Lagartija Nick con composiciones de Leonard Cohen y Federico García-Lorca en "Omega", la composición durante una semana en Hong-Kong de Blur en "The magic whip", el fallecimiento del hijo de Nick Cave en "Skeleton tree", los conflictos internos de Wilco con "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" y el regreso de Ry Cooder a Cuba.

En el caso de las Dixie Chicks, todo versa alrededor de las presiones que tuvieron que soportar en su propio país tras unas declaraciones criticando al presidente George W. Bush.

Por último, mencionaré los que se centran en giras (Bob Dylan durante 3 semanas en la primavera de 1965; Sonic Youth con Nirvana y otros grupos como Dinosaur Jr., Babes in Toyland, Gumball y Ramones por Europa en 1991; The Beatles entre los años 1962 y 1966; y la gira mundial "Somewhere Back In Time" de Iron Maiden), en conciertos concretos (The Rolling Stones el 6 de diciembre de 1969 en Altamont, Grateful Dead en octubre de 1974 en San Francisco, The Band en su despedida en 1976 y Laibach el 19 de agosto de 2015 en Pyongyang, siendo el primer grupo occidental que actúa en la capital de Corea del Norte) o incluso en festivales (Woodstock en agosto de 1969).
